I read "The 2020 Workplace" to help me conceptualize a thesis I will be starting on shortly. The book reveals the important generational differences that are so vital to an organization adapting to. Each generation has a unique set of characteristics and needs - organizations often fail to recognize these nuances and treat everyone the same. This book clearly demonstrates the differences that exist between generations, what each come to expect from the workplace, and how to manage and develop talent to excel in a highly competitive and diverse world.This book was outstanding - and, speaking from a millennial perspective it hit the target on so many frustrations I experience in the workplace (with respect to my generational needs) - read this book!-M

Very interesting book trying to describe how we will be working in 2020. Some things probably are not a big surprise even now, some other are a bit revolutionery and might require changing our thinking about work.The book is solidly documented which makes the conclusions more reliable.But are we ready for the change? I am wondering where the non-network generation will fit in in 2020?I really recommend this book since it gives goocd food for thought!
One of the problems of writing book about what is going to happen in the future...is when the future gets here and it's not exactly what you thought it might be. While the book has many interesting facets...and I do recommend reading it...it is not as game changing as her follow-up, The Future Workplace Experience.
This book is really well-researched and clearly structured. I heard about it from some ASTD colleagues. I guess part of why it did not overwhelm is that some time has passed since its publication, and some of the trends it predicted have indeed become reality. Others remain a bit far-fetched--I don't hear of too many companies electing leaders.
The 2020 Workplace, by Meister and Willyerd, is an amazingly relevant business book for any executive looking to identify, engage and retain a broad based talent pool on which to grow their business.Its style is clear and accessible and the messages are direct. I find it particularly valuable due to the breadth of industry research and resultant real life examples.It is a plain-speaking eye-opening perspective of the changes occurring in our flat and increasingly connected business world.As the edges of our businesses blur ... here is a tool and a source for a today's and tomorrow's executives not just in human resources, to stay relevant, and oriented - I commend this book to you
I found this book very interesting and useful for me as an HR expert and coach / mentor of HiPos and recommend it for executives of innovative companies (not only but strongly the HR people). This is a nice and unparallel collection of the mainstream visions on the near future. I appreciate especially its style, simplicity and strong intention for preparing corporate people to get the near future's skills and competencies showing them the alredy existing new ways and exemples of the today's leading companies.
