I recommend this book for all architecture students for their early college curriculum. This issue is a value reprint with low quality illustrations of a early 20th century translation. Amazing who many Wikipedia articles refer to this text and the extent of technology developed in the first century and lost and rediscovered over a thousand years later.

I am of the age group that had had rigorous courses through eight years of European "Gimnazium" type high schooling. I found the book very interesting, giving an insight of Roman construction methods and materials. I would have been happier if the book were bilingual.

Love it. I’m not an architect and I enjoyed the read very much. Vitruvius was an interesting dude.

For a serious student of architecture this excellent "history" value of "why" style, technics, etc., that we use today have developed.

If you know about this book(s) or the author, you probably don't need to be told it's a must read. Though if you are beginning in the field, the text can be hard to grasp at times (it does help to have some background in Roman history and architecture to really appreciate this book, as there are no footnotes to provide this extra information).As for the electronic edition itself, it is somewhat poorly executed. Some characters were wrongly read by the OCR machine. It doesn't imper the reading much, but some more careful editing would have been welcomed, especially since the text can be found elsewhere for free.Overall, I would be searching for another electronic copy of Vitruvius' works.

Very informational and quite candid, funny how Roman's thought that being an architect took little knowledge. Quote from the book,"If thy son be dull witted make him a page or an architect ".

A wonderful book to read about foundation values of classical architecture and includes many interesting stories and side tangents by the author. I you are studying architecture you need to read this book!

About the Author

Eric Carle is an internationally bestselling and award-winning author and illustrator of more than seventy books for very young children, including The Tiny Seed, Papa, Please Get the Moon for Me, and his most well-known title, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Born in Syracuse, New York, Eric Carle moved to Germany with his parents when he was six years old. He studied at the prestigious art school, the Akademie der Bildenden Künste, in Stuttgart, before returning to the United States, where he worked as a graphic designer for the New York Times and later as art director for an advertising agency. The Very Hungry Caterpillar, now considered a modern classic, has sold nearly fifty million copies and has been translated into sixty-five languages. Pay attention to the product dimensions! I assumed this was the size of a typical hardcover children's picture book. It's not. The book itself is fine and I don't have a problem with anything other than I don't think it's made clear in the product description what you're actually ordering. When it says "hardcover," I would think most people assume it's an average-sized hardcover book, not a mini version of it. Just wanted people to be aware in case the size matters to you. In my case, it DID matter because I bought this for reading aloud to a large group of preschoolers, and they aren't going to be able to see the pictures very well because it's so small.

I am very disappointed in this product. The main attraction was the seed-embedded paper 'included' in the book......the paper was NOT included. I ordered 2 books for my grandchildren's birthdays to go with gardening items. It was going to be lots of fun to plant the seeds and watch them grow. I guess I'll have to go purchase seeds separately even though inside the front cover and on the back of the book it mentions the 'detachable' seed paper. Grammie Mc

Sweet book! My daughter enjoys reading it. It is a great visual for the life cycle of plants.Adapted for a ready-to-read, level two book, this Eric Carle classic will not only challenge children with developing reading skills but it also follows the journey of a seed from the time the autumn winds take it aloft until it lands and eventually sprouts into a mature plant. You'll love the bright, vibrant illustrations and descriptive text here. This is an excellent, joyful reader with a story that explains how plant seeds are spread and then grow into mature plants. Excellent!

The story was cute, but I thought this was a board book!? That is how it was listed. This was actually only a hard covered book and the very thin pages ripped the first time reading it. The seeds that came with it was a cute touch. The book was smaller than I would have expected. I ended up giving this to an older child as my son is too young for this delicate book.

Nice book. I felt it was a little above my 2 year old but he listened through most of it, talked about what was going on in the pictures and was excited to pick out seeds and plant them.

This is a short book with cute drawings and the whole book is dedicated to the life of a tiny seed. Highly recommended for young kids!

I’m using this in my Sunday school class room for fall planting. This book goes thru all seasons which covers all bases. It’s a little long for the younger age group I teach but they loved it.

It is incredibly TINY!! I never thought to look at the dimension thinking no such size and font could possibly exist to be legible!!! Also, I love the author and thought to add this to our collections.. but this story is too dark for a 3 and 5 year old from what I could make with a magnifying glass.

Great content, very knowledgeable writer and added so much to the field. Unfortunately a majority of the text was focused on philosophy, with only minimal look at how this adds to psychotherapy. I was looking for a book on therapy, and found a history of existential philosophy. Still very enjoyable, however unfortunately not what I was looking for. I can see how Rollo May influenced current existential analysts, and I will stick with their material as they put more of an emphasis on therapy and less on philosophy. As a caveat, this was the first book that I read of Rollo May's, and therefore this review may be biased due to lack of knowledge of Rollo May's writing style.

Pulls together the historical contexts and driving philosophy of existential counseling and its application. This book explains complex ideas in clear concise language. I think it would be broadly appreciated by historians, political scientists, and anyone struggling for context in the modern world. It is a clarion call for how to approach an increasingly fragmented, industrialized world. An exciting read, one of the best I've read!

May presents the principles of existential philosophy and psychology in clearly understood language. An excellent introduction to those theories about being in the world.

Very insightful book. Very rare for any author to discuss ontology in an intelligible way with application to psychotherapy.

Strongly recommend for any student attempting to understand the humanistic perspective in the United States....interesting read and easy download, nice.

Since I'm reading and working w/Existential Psychology this book is a must have in a library on the subject. Recommended.

I only wished I had read this book sooner. It was very readable and it's concepts were simply explained and easily understood.

This a very good text for use in my Fundamentals of American Law class. Good for knowledge of the subject matter and for test/quiz review areas. Chapters divided into an outline form, which is the way I take my notes, and has just the right amount of information without getting overly wordy.I recommend this to any 100/200 level intro course professor.

This book gave me a good start to the Introduction of Law. It served it's purpose.

I bought this because it was the required text book for my son's introductory law class. I'm a lawyer myself so I couldn't help reading parts of it.Generally speaking, it does a very good job--I almost wish I had had such a book when I first started law many, many years ago. It does a good job of giving the big picture. Good set-off of definitions.My only critique is that this book is written at a pretty sophisticated level. Great if you are an upperclassman but some community college students may find the book challenging, especially if they are not adept at understanding intangible concepts.Overall, a good value for the money if you buy it used.

This homage to the dolorous military tune "Taps" is light on substance but heavy on sentiment. Schneider, a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge in WWII and author of the forthcoming children's book Zeek the Christmas Tree Mouse, begins with the history of the song, dispelling many myths along the way. On a balmy Virginia night in 1862, with Union and Confederate soldiers weary during the Seven Days Battles, Union general Daniel Butterfield ordered the brigade bugler, Private Oliver Willcox, to write a soothing tune to send the troops to sleep. The poignant tune quickly spread throughout the North and the South, and today it is played at many official funerals and is the last sound soldiers hear before extinguishing their lights. The pace slows when Schneider discusses the origins of the bugle, the national monuments where "Taps" can be heard (such as Arlington National Cemetery) and how the tune has been remembered in literature. Highlighted throughout, however, are many interesting pieces of Americana and sidebars of quotes from such personalities as Yogi Berra, himself a WWII veteran. Schneider also explores the evolution of the lyrics that have been set to the tune (one of the most popular being "Day is done,/ Gone the sun,/ From the hills, from the lake, from the skies") and interviews the bugler at President Kennedy's funeral, whose broken note was seen by the press as a "tear" and was repeated by other buglers for weeks afterwards. Has all the information related to Taps. Also, what happened to those people who wrote and played it.Recommend this to all and all libraries should have this on their shelves.

The book is truly a labor of love, and it's obvious. Schneider is to be commended for having once and for all related the history of "Taps," and debunking many myths about its origin. It is fortuitous that the author connected with Jari Villaneuva, an outstanding trumpeter, and the foremost authority on "Taps," living or dead. One minor flaw is an erroneous reference to an E-flat trumpet, near the end of the book. The book loses one star in this review because of the awful design, in which the text is interrupted again and again by sidebar stories. Editor: there had to be a better way to present this information!

This book gives us a handy reference to the origins of Taps. We need it, for, as well as the true story, here is also an exploration of the other, long told and beautifully poetic myth about the origins of the tune.One challenge for historians is this: who wrote the words that we most often sing (or think in our minds silently) to go with the music.... "Day is done...(etc.)" Even the authorities Schneider relies on don't have the answer. It goes back to Harrison's Landing and General Dan.

As a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam war, I have to say that Richard Schneider has written (composed from the heart, would be a better description) a wonderful little book about the most beautiful notes ever written. The book is not only a "feel-good" book for those for which "Taps" holds a special place in their hearts, it is also an informative book with historical elements and anecdotes to please the history minded reader. I especially liked the poems in the rear of the book that added to the poignancy of the theme. This book fills a certain void that occurred after 9/11 because even though the flag got a lot of attention, "Taps" deserves some attention also.
