Not anyone's favorite edition, but what can you say? We've all got our opinions about the changes but, Gotta have one anyway. I'm happy with this desk edition, I figure if I need to read something in the full edition, I can read someone else's.

My suggestion, if you're going to actually open this book and especially if you are going to use it frequently, invest the extra money in the hard cover!I'm sure this is not the seller's fault, but I bought this in paperback to save on cost. I haven't used it that much at this point, but the spine has broken and a large chunk is now completely loose from the book. And each time I try to turn one of those pages, no matter how carefully, they rip off as well. I am super (slightly neurotic) about all of my books so I'm not handling this one too roughly. For the price of this book and how often I'm sure people will use it, they should do something about the spine. I know a few other people who this has happened to.

I was a little hesitant purchasing this book based on the feedback other buyers have shared; I was however in need of it and the price certainly convinced me to give it a try. The book I received has some printing issues, but not nearly as bad as what others have experienced. My copy is printed on two different stocks of papers. The first half of the book is printed on glossy paper and the other half on regular stock perhaps 24lb or 32lb. Other than that and a few pages printed at a slight angle the book serves its purpose and though it is used it is in great condition. My copy has no misspelled words nor duplicate or missing pages as others have reported.

I understand everyone's frustration about it not being spiral bound. However, and I know this costs slightly more money for something that should have been thought of before it was mass produced, you can get it spiraled at a place like Office Max for less than $10. They will slightly shave off the binding and spiral it for you, making it actually functional for it's purpose. Just thought I should share this :).Happy diagnosing!

I recently realized that this DSM is missing pages 421-468. The book is seemingly in perfect condition and aside from this huge issue, which was unaware to me until I needed to reference certain diagnoses and realized the pages are COMPLETELY GONE!

ITEM IS A BOOTLEG copy. As a clinical social worker, I used to get a copy of the DESK REFERENCE issued by my employer and the quality of this one compared to others I've had is night and day. The copy purchased through Amazon has: 1) wonky spiral binding that makes it difficult to turn the pages, 2) pages are stuck together at the punch hole for spiral binding and tear when trying to separate, 3) paper quality is ultra thin and circa 1980's xerox copy machine in quality and texture, 4) some of the holes for spiral binding are actually punched through the writing/descriptions on the page, 5) many pages are printed CROOKED, 6) headings on some pages are actually "smeared" or running off the page. Amazon, you need to investigate this seller!!!

This is a poor version compared to the one I bought in 1994. The pages are tissue thin. I have had it not even a year and it is falling apart and I rarely use it...seriously, rarely use it and it is cheap!! Not impressed with this book at all!! Do yourself a favor and find one in a bookstore and try it out rather than buy online. I should have returned it but...oh, well, that's my bad! But seriously, if you do order one online, make sure you can return it if you don't like it.

The price is too good to be true. The book took weeks to arrive and now that it has, it's missing pages 215-244 and has 245-276 twice.

The reviews about fake books are legit. I ordered mine used (not the cheapest one either, paid 70 bucks). Got a fake copy, pages seemed to all be there but multiple pages were crooked, and the text on the cover looked somewhat blurry.

I can't put this book down. I read a bit and it seems to go no where, just a woman walking and picking up rocks in the desert. But I find myself going back again and again to read more. It feels like I am walking in the desert behind her, noticing the rocks over and over, living with the rattlesnakes and the mastiffs, noticing the rain clouds and hearing the bits and pieces of her life and family history.The prose is beautiful. I can picture the trees and cactus, I can feel this life lived with the animals, reptiles, birds and insects. There is no gossip, no reality shows, no newspapers although here is a woman obviously paying attention to modern society, politics and their impact on the natural world she inhabits.I open the book over and over to listen to this woman share her life with me. She doesn't care if I like her, she is simply speaking the truth of her life, one day at a time. She is intense, focused on her surroundings. She lives as an artist integrated into her environment. She doesn't consider herself as a human being to be the center of the universe. I am married into a Native American family and Silko reminds me of many of my women in-laws. Her voice rings true. She does not have a European American sensibility.

I enjoyed to writing. There was a time in the book that it became manotonus but I gained a sense of living someplace that I never had . got to know a interesting woman and learned a lot as well a developed an appreciation for rattle snakes . I love how she cohabitated with them and gave them respect

I really enjoyed reading this book. At first I found it difficult to follow, as the time she was talking about would shift without any notice. I actually did some research on her as a author and about the book. I saw a short interview with her talking about this book and I recall her saying that time was like ocean, flowing all around us. It wasn't something that was in a straight line of chronological order, memories and experiences flowed around us. Sometimes they were close to us and others they drifted further away. Once I heard her explain this the book made much more sense to me and I followed it without any confusion! I loved reading about her finding turquoise stones and reading about her animal friends. Really a great book!

What amazed me about this memoir of a Native American woman was how much I identified with her perceptions and the similarity in our daily rituals. Silko's life is in teardrop perspective--thirty years of roaming the hills and arroyos outside of Tucson; witnessing the passing seasons, shifts in topography, behavior of creatures large and small, flora in its myriad formations, celestial movements, and development for good or ill by mankind. It's a walk with an Indian naturalist. The poetic, loving descriptions of her environment pulled me forward even though some details of her daily existence became tedious. Like her, my walk each day is my meditation. She once loved to ride her horse over the trails, but now finds the slower pace allows her to take in more of what she sees, hears, and smells. I share that feeling and her sense of being connected in the cycle of life without being maudlin. As a student of mythology--American Indian lore in particular--I enjoyed her insights into the ways of her ancestors and learning about the voices of the Star People who channel their wishes through her paintings. I could have done with fewer pet dramas and more legends of the old people, but I can honestly say I learned a great deal about the desert creatures, plants, and seasons through the eyes of this most caring woman. What stays with me is this:"As I walked I looked at the dark basalt hills, and at the cactus and shrubs and trees; all of them were in harmony with one another, and I felt within that beauty. In an instant I saw that even man-made things--the roll of old fence wire, the old rail ties withered by sixty years of the heat and the sun--were in the light of that beauty. In that beauty we all will sink slowly back into the lap of the Earth."

Lovely prose - very well written and loaded with insight into Native American culture, the human place in the world and images of the desert around the outskirts of Tucson, Arizona. Break-your-heart beautiful at times and I especially enjoyed Part II = Rattlesnakes.Left me homesick for Tucson, although I have only visited there. Highly recommend! I look forward to reading Leslie Silko's novels next...

The author's non-fiction set of essays was set up as a book, but to me it was a set of essays surrounding her area of Arizona near Tucson. I found that I was going with her on her day-hikes through the ravines and over the ridges that she took day after day. When she put humor in the writing, it fit well. When she put dark thoughts in the story, it fit. It is a little more New Age than I like, but this time, it fit.

The memoir reads like a chat with a dear friend. You feel the warmth, see the specks of turquoise, are led into the desert to experience its mysteries. As you come to know the beauty of this harsh land, you are even more angered as the developments encroach. I recommend reading this book with a quiet cup of coffee...on a warm, sunny porch.

Leslie Marmon Silko is a treasure. Her multiply layered memoir is located primarily near Tucson, Arizona, but geographically and spiritually it ranges much further. At one point she recounts her family tree which seems much more a family tangle of vines that challenges anyone to hyphenate her heritage.

I don't advocate reading SparkNotes (or CliffNotes) but if you are a high school/college student with a busy schedule and don't have time to read Shelley's novel, this does give a complete and accurate summary of the book's contents; it also explores the themes and leitmotivs of the novel quite well. I recommend it highly, although I would never recommend reading SparkNotes in place of the novel itself.

I appreciate how detailed the information contained in the book is.

And is is just great.The book is crystal clear and extremely comprehensive, very easy to read, with examples you can reproduce easily (datasets are on line in a public Git repo).It covers a very practical ground on the 4 main algorithms implemented in H2O cluster: RandomForest, GBM, GLM, and last but not least : deep learning..."Practical" means explanations are strongly grounded on a set of 4 datasets , the author plays with, explaining both their preparation , analysis with H2O (code is both in R and PYTHON), and a great deal of time is spent on very useful considerations on how to 'tune' the various algorithmsto obtain better models, comparing their effectiveness.All this in very clear style and explanations.A must have for everyone interested in implementing ML features concretely.Francois GRUYER(from Paris, France)

This is by default the best book on H2O, since there aren't others. That said, the author makes a strange choice of splitting the book between Python and R code, particularly considering it is written for an audience that is not fluent in ML modelling. The beginning states that most will be in both languages, but sometimes there will only be Python code; this is not the case. There are huge chunks of R-only. At one point, he writes a bunch of code in R and says the Python equivalent is available on his Git. If it is, then it is named something quite different than the R code. The only way a book like this works is if all the code is available in both languages, and that is not the case.TL;DR: If you know both Python and R and don't mind splitting work in both while following along, this is a good book. Otherwise, just stick to H2O's booklets and documentation (after learning ML in your language if you don't already).

The author makes clear descriptions and his explanations are always accessible. His high-quality sense of humour interspersed throughout the text helps maintain the interest in the text as one reads. I would love to read more of this author.

This book is one of the most interesting political autobiographies I have read (and I've read many of them). I must confess that interest was intensified due to the fact that I worked in the House of Commons during her tenure in office, and indeed worked during the 1987 General Election for two Conservative Members of Parliament (David Amess of Basildon and David Evennett of Erith & Crayford--yes, I know, you've never heard of either of them).This is actually the first volume of Margaret Thatcher's books to be published; the prequel is 'The Path to Power' and there is a follow-up, 'The Collected Speeches', but for those interested, 'The Downing Street Years' is the book to have.It begins with the 1979 General Election, and carries forward to her resignation as Prime Minister a decade later. In this volume are her perspectives on all the various Cabinet intrigues, shuffles and reshuffles; her attempts to find civil servants and other helpers who were not of the old guard but of a new mentality, often asking, 'Is he one of us?' by which she meant, not is he a Conservative, but rather, will he get something accomplished, is he a do-er?Thatcher's perspectives on the various scandals and inter-Cabinet fighting makes for interesting reading -- she is candid in her likes and dislikes among her Cabinet colleagues. Her final row with Geoffrey Howe, who delivered a scathing speech in the HoC that mostly prompted the leadership crisis, is enlightening. (I've not seen his version, if one exists--it would be good to compare the two sides.) She was very disappointed at the end when she thought she had the continued support of the party, but each of her ministers and 'friends' told her in turn that while he supported her, others would not. She saw the writing on the wall, and after having won the first ballot for party leadership but not by a sufficient majority to avoid a second ballot, she resigned in favour of John Major (whose autobiography, recently issued, is also well worth reading, particularly for his comments about how Thatcher tried to maintain a controlling influence over him from behind the office).You might be tempted, if you're not really into politics and not reading this for scholarly purposes, to skim over various minor issues that are gone into great detail. Historians are appreciative, but I seriously ask myself how many non-political scientists and historians will read through all the detail of what are now minor bits of history?In all, a brilliant career, the first woman head of government in a major Western democracy, and well worth reading on the whole.

I learned more about the 1980's from this book than I did living through them. Granted I was young and not paying too much attention at the time, but MT's perspective on some of the pivotal events of that period is fascinating. Particularly enjoyed the discussion on Northern Ireland, the Falklands War and dealings with Russia. Maybe i'm wrong here ... but it also seems like the PM of the UK is forced to work a lot harder than any US congressman or President. She was in the weeds, and seemed to rely on a small team. Does the Parliamentary structure demand that kind of factual grasp, unlike the US system? Smaller support staff budget? Hmm.

Being an autobiography dealing with a limited subset of the subject's years, the usual biographical information regarding early life, influences and inspirations are regrettably missing, though still covered in other works for those justifiably hungry for such ('Path to Power', by Thatcher', and John Campbell's biographies of the lady).Personality issues within the government and international arena are given generous page-time, and do actually provide useful context and justification for actions and decisions taken by Thatcher throughout her premiership, as well as providing insights into the character and personalities of various world leaders. One particular insight of note for myself was the efforts enacted by US Secretary of State Alexander Haig in trying to forge a diplomatic solution to the Falklands invasion: I'd always considered Haig as something of a dyed-in-the-wool reactionary, but his actions and earnest efforts in this instance spoke far louder than words.Discussions of economic minutiae, raining with acronyms specific to the British political and economic environments (including a very creative instance of public service-speak for budget deficits), aren't very effective at holding a reader's interest, but readers are encouraged to press on nonetheless, as disparate economic matters are blessedly interspersed with chapters on social, international, domestic and European issues of sufficient consciousness-boosting contrast.Social matters are given adequate page-time, though I would have liked some additional context for several of such, especially comments regarding Thatcher's belief in removing provisions for no-fault divorce. Her almost-throwaway justification for such a view seemed to be vested in the belief that a woman (as if only a woman would want a divorce) should choose to depend more on her more-accountable husband than on less-accountable state welfare, seeming to follow on from the lady's views on moving dependence to more accountable service providers, susceptible to market forces, rather than governments. The two views seem more aligned in ideology than practicality, with no case evidence given to justify the lady's view on fault-based divorce.On the Kindle edition, despite aid in photograph selection being applauded within the book's acknowledgments, no photo pages have been included
