This one I kept to read myself. My degree is in philosophy. This book not only presets "the Unknowing" but also touches on what others writers were doing at that time.I love it.Thank you.

Taking the warning at the beginning that it is not meant for those with a casual or shallow spirituality into account, this work is an immensely deep and timeless guide to any Christian seeking nearness to God. Even in instances where I might disagree with the author's theology on some point, The Cloud of Unknowing is thought provoking and inspiring. The other works placed with the Cloud help put it into context. It is important that anyone who wishes to follow the author's advise do so thoughtfully and carefully. Concepts such as the impossibility to truly KNOW God and the impossibility for the senses and the mind to come to Him, along with the necessity to rely to a certain extent on the heart and emotions can easily lead in non-Christian directions if the reader does not have a mature understanding of spiritual matters. No matter how strange his teaching may seem at times, the author was an absolutely orthodox Catholic. It is important to remember where the author is coming from in such lofty literature to keep things in context. That done, it is easy for me, an Evangelical Baptist, to say that this work is as applicable for me today as it was during the middle ages when it was written. I also want to say that I always try to buy Penguin editions of any classic work I may be looking for. Penguin combines annotated and informational style that lends context with affordability. As a student, I appreciate both.

As a student of the "Cloud" for many years I appreciate having this text in my library, especially since it includes the "The Mystical Theology of St. Denis," "The Book of Privy Counselling," and "An Epistle on Prayer." However, the type face is so small that my 65 year old eyes tire easily when attempting to read it. If you're subject to eye strain, I'd recommend William Johnston's edition of "Cloud" and "Privy" or the "Cloud" from the "Classics of Western Spirituality" put out by Paulist Press along with its companion volume, "The Pursuit of Wisdom," containing other works by the "Cloud's" author. In any case, no student of contemplative prayer/meditation should be anything but thoroughly familiar with the treasure these texts contain.

Very interesting book. Given its age, it was much easier to read than I was expecting and provided insight into the more mystical and contemplative practice of prayer meditation.

I was given an advance copy of this book and have had a chance to read it. Even though I've been married for 18 yrs this book revealed areas in my marriage that needed improvement. I so wish I had this book 20 years ago when we were dating.GET THIS BOOK!! Excellent for those seriously dating, engaged, just married and beyond. Thanks Scott Kersersha for writing such an awesome book. Great real life stories, amazing questions at the end of each chapter to reflect and ask each other, and thoughtful ways of strengthening the knot we are tying together. MUST BUY!!

I highly recommend this book for any dating or engaged couple! I think all 12 of the conversations/topics discussed in this book are so crucial for couples to have before marriage. I loved the authenticity, transparency, and real life stories of other couples in this book who have struggled or had victories in their marriage. You can really tell that the author pours out all the wisdom he has learned from God over the years from being a marriage pastor, husband, and helping thousands of engaged couples prepare for marriage. I appreciated the practical steps and questions in each chapter that help you put action items to what you just read. And even though these are "12 conversations to have before marriage", my husband and I have been married for 2 years and everything in this book was still very applicable to us. After reading this book and walking through the questions together, we learned SO many new things about each other that we never would have thought to ask or discuss. We also got to go in depth over areas in our marriage that were healthy and areas we want to take ground on. I also appreciated how everything was backed up with scripture and gave us applicable verses or passages for what we learned. I'm very grateful for this resource, and I recommend it for any engaged or already married couple!!

Our children will always benefit from being raised in a home with a healthy marriage. We should never ever take that for granted. Ready Or Knot? is a great book that reminds us what our foundation must look like so that we are aligned as a couple so we can parent our children well. Covenant Keeping is real, and sometimes really hard! This particular author, Scott Kedersha, does an excellent job of explaining how we should communicate in all aspects of marriage. We have been married for 8 years and this book has been a great refresher! Our favorite parts are the beautiful prayers at the end of each chapter. This book is a gift!

As a counselor, I’ve read pretty much everything out there when it comes to marriage and pre-marriage books and this one takes the cake. It is biblical, authentic, thorough, yet succinct. I love the way Scott writes with such an authentic voice. He provides real life couple examples, Scripture references, and application questions for individual and couple discussion. The topics covered are fantastic and essential for premarital preparation. I highly recommend Ready or Knot! (I received a copy in advance from the publisher so I could get an idea of what the book was like and give my honest review.)

Ready or Knot? Should you read it? Should you dare have those 12 conversations? YES AND YES! I had the privilege of receiving a copy from the publisher so that I could give a review! I am so glad to be able to endorse this book! This has the conversations every couple should have who are coming to the point of becoming engaged but also who are engaged! Scott weaves interviews of couples in each chapter along with scripture through and through and closing each chapter with a section called " Am I Ready?" and "Strengthening the Knot" these two sections have questions to help you apply what was read in that chapter and then a Closing Prayer! Yes, there are many books available on this subject BUT this will be the book I give to couples from now on! It is an easy read but don't take that lightly! I have been married for 35 years and wish I had this book back then but am glad I have it now and have begun applying these conversations in my marriage! It is worth the investment to buy this book!

When it comes to marriage lots of people think preparing before hand isn’t important. So wrong! My wife and I know the value that pre-marriage education can be to marriage. Since it gave us such a good foundation we have sought to help other couples out too. We have guided many couples through preparations prior to their wedding for a successful marriage. We are always on the lookout for great resources to provide to these couples. This book right here is one of the best I’ve found. We will not only recommend it but most likely will give a copy to every couple we mentor.It does a great job balancing easy to read language, great examples from real couples, biblical truth, practical lessons, and reflection questions. The questions are great to start conversation on topics that are not usually addressed without some prompting. I really enjoyed every bit of this book. My wife and I just entered into parenthood with our firstborn after 10 years of marriage. The parenting chapter at the end was especially helpful as we begin to discuss exactly how we want to raise our daughter and what we want her to value. In that chapter Betty from the example couple stated that they “would value character development and spiritual progress more than home runs, baskets and grades.” I loved reading that and knowing that my wife and I want to do exactly that.

They use their power and influence to investigate supernatural and alien phenomena, and to battle the forces behind them. All this is done under the umbrella of the illegal DELTA GREEN conspiracy. "The concept works very well. The Player Characters are given a reason to work together, have access to powerful resources (but limited by the illegal nature of their work), and have a reason to adventure past the first encounter. These are three things Cthulhu roleplaying has been missing in the past , but no longer. "Overall and in the details, I am ecstatically happy with DELTA GREEN." I've never played anything but 1920's Call of Cthulhu, and have never been to keen on the idea on modern-day CoC. But I must admit, the Delta Green campaign setting is really impressive. After having taken a look at it and purchasing it, I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a change of pace in their CoC game. The best comparison I can think of is this: If CoC 1920's is the movie "Alien," Delta Green is the movie "Aliens." Both are cool, both have the same creatures as the adversaries, but they both have different moods and different types of protagonists. The background info in this book is so realistic, if I were a bit more mentally unbalanced :), I could easily believe every bit of it as gospel truth, not just a game setting.

Widely believed to be the single best campaign setting of all time for table-top RPG's, Delta Green perfects the Call of Cthulhu engine for a modern setting, and is a must-have on every gamer's shelf. If you haven't played it, you need to wrap up your current campaign and get this to the table.There’s recently been published a new 2nd Edition of Delta Green that I think cleans up both the mechanics and fluff, that I recommend, and is significantly less expensive due to being in-print and more widely available.

To call DELTA GREEN a supplement for Call of Cthulhu is to do it a great injustice. Even if you don't play the game, but are a Lovecraft aficionado, you owe it to yourself to pick this up and see what Tynes and company have done. This is not your father's Cthulhu Mythos. This is the best RPG suppliment I have ever read, bar none. It's a great READ, even if you are not a gamer. Interesting background, lots of plot hooks as well. The group that did this book are great writers and are loving what they do and it shows. If you are into Horror, X-Files, Call of Cthulhu, ect...buy it to read, if not play. The book is curently out of print, but I understand that it will be reprinted in 2006 as a hardcover with d20 rules. Anyone wanting to write or publish an RPG should read this book and use it as an example. A MUST.

Delta Green was originally spoken of years ago, when Pagan Publishing was still in its infancy. I almost gave up on it many times, but when it finally arrived, I could see that the wait was well worth it. Delta Green is one of the most well-crafted products ever to come out in the role-playing genre. It raises the standard and, since its release two years ago, we have indeed seen games and supplements become bigger, better, and more well-thought-out. I think we can attribute this in part to Pagan Publishing, which has shown the gaming public how good things can be.

This amazing game (and just plain interesting read!) is currently back in print. You can pick up the new edition, converted to D20, by heading to the publisher's web site. Pagan Publishing and TC Corp have done a great service to its fans by releasing this reprint!

I would have given a much lower score based on an HPL feel scale; but I must admit the product is solid even if it has nothing to do with classic CoC; its a totally different game.That other type of flavor game was mainly to appeal to people that:1) Felt uneasy to play in the 20s2) Wanted more fire power or modern organized resources3) Were fan of X-Files even if DG came a bit before the TV series, the popularity grew much after thatSo its a good game to play Mulder and Scully or even men in black kinda investigators with those sunglasses and Steyr riflesIts definitally Modern horror type and not for the classic HPL type of game fans

Terrible addition to CoC. A handful of modern occupations. A few decent new skills. And more guns is always good. As far as adding anything to the roleplaying aspect in the CoC world it is a 300+ page waste of time. Some interesting reading on how they work all the conspiracy theories into the Cthulhu Mythos but not very beneficial for gaming. Hoping the new Delta Green books will be better but not going to hold my breath.

This book is a quick read (just 60 pages with wide margin space, takes about an hour to get through it), but the idea is not to be an engaging book that you learn everything about the subject. Rather, it is just a description of what it is, a sample of how it works, and then some encouragement to go out and read more about the subject for yourself.The idea is that instead of saying "What is wrong with the way we are doing things?" and fixing it, you ask "What is right with the way we are doing things?" and go on to exploit your strength. A very interesting concept. And this book is great to either let you know whether you are interested in it or not.

Very good book: reminds you that a glass can also be half-full. This provides a complementary view to our normal negative-based, non-inclusive improvement methods.

This book provides straight-forward information, resources and case scenarios to illustrate how AI may be applied in the workplace. I liked this book in kindle for I could sneak a read here and there and now I also want it in paper cause the reference is necessary

I used this Thin Book as a way to get a better understanding of the dynamics of AI. While there is not a lot of detail, that's the whole point of the Thin series--just the germ of the idea with a few examples.I particularly liked the question sets and the examples of AI in use. The comparison of AI with regular problem solving methods was particularly enlightening.

The Bat in My Pocket is written succinctly, reads well, and leaves the reader with not only the story of how a tiny injured bat changed the course of this woman’s life, but also is generous with the knowledge and insight about the behavior and mindset of the female Mexican Freetail bats who are the stars of the story.This book is a vivid testimony to the character of the “Bat Lady” who founded Bat World Sanctuary in Mineral Wells, Texas, and who has gone on to become an ambassador and champion of bats around the world, as well as a go-to person for organizations and/or individuals concerned with bat welfare and stewardship, with saving and raising orphans, and creating enriched environments for non-releasable bats.This book is a wonderful read, and would be a great gift or reading list recommend for teens or adults. Amanda’s writing style is informal and straightforward; thus, the reader is allowed to step immediately into the relationship she describes (with such love and intimacy) about the two years she lived with tiny crippled Sunshine, and how the experience changed her life story with such profundity.

A few months ago I saw a video of an injured fruit bat being cared for in Australia and this piqued my curiosity about bats. This in turn led me to Bat World Sanctuary (BWS) in Texas.Amanda Lollar, the founder of BWS, encountered an injured Mexican Free-tail Bat on the sidewalk in 1989 and nursed her back to health, though she could not be released back to the wild. Along the way she discovered how intellegent, social, and affectionate bats are, and became their life-long advocate. This book is very well-written and an easy read. She describes how Sunshine (the bat) became a loved and respected friend, and she skillfully weaves information about bats into the storyline.I recommend this for all ages. After reading it, I feel we should stop telling children about "the birds and the bees" and start telling them about "the bird and the bees and the bats!"

I read this book about 15 years ago, when I purchased it at the gift shop at Carlsbad Caverns (I think); am now looking it up for my 8-year-old son to read. It can be a little intense emotionally, so the age at which a child can listen to it or read it independently will vary. (I blubbered more than once myself) But I think it's incredibly worthwhile for three reasons: a) it's candid and honestly tender, and clearly shows how the author and her bats connect with one another; b) the reader learns much about the biology and behavior of bats...an uncommon subject c) it's got the elements of any good human-animal story: the development of trust, the refinement of communication, wonder, funny parts, love, grief.

Must read this book, for all ages.

I read this book many years ago when it first came out. I loved it. I gave it to my grandson. He loved it too. Great read!

We love to watch bats flying at dusk & encourage them in our yarden. We don't want them in our house, however! This book is so well written that it almost convinced me that I wanted a bat as a pet! Three cheers for the author in putting the friendly face of bats out to the public AND for her wonderful bat rescue.

Really enjoyed reading this book. Lots of interesting facts about bats. Easy to read. Almost made me want to find a bat and nurse it back to health!

How do you write something new and fresh about a topic that has been analyzed down to its toenails? You have to really “get it” and Naoh Rasheta clearly does. Written in an inspired Q&A format, this book really is “No-Nonsense,” which, of course, to the Buddhist means, “It makes all the sense in the world.”I am a proud-to-be-an-American Buddhist philosopher who lived in China for almost a decade. Which means, essentially, that I study the teachings of the Buddha, including the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path. I don’t, however, meditate, although I do contemplate. And there is a difference.The point is that whatever you’ve heard about Buddhism is probably both right and wrong. The teachings of the Buddha are so straightforward (notice I didn’t say simple) as to be very difficult to communicate. And, as such, they can take many forms, as evidenced by the large number of Buddhist sects in existence today.Noah Rasheta, however, does a better job than anyone else I’ve read at pulling it all together. And I perceive he is motivated to do so both because he cares and he appreciates that this lack of discrete definability is precisely what many sufferers in the West need, but which prevents them from finding relief.The language of Buddhism can be difficult, in part, because there are so many exotic terms used in its ancient teachings. But these terms are not exotic so much as they are merely unfamiliar and I suggest you largely ignore them. And Mr. Rasheta will help. He doesn’t ignore them but he does marginalize their importance for native English speakers.I like to explain how by using the example of an old tree sitting high up in a mountainous meadow. The tree is real. I can touch it. I can smell it. I can hear the rustle of its leaves. I could even cut it down if I wanted. I can’t, however, “know” the tree. The tree is a product of the things within itself but it is also the product of the climate, the altitude, the soil, the trees and vegetation around it, and an infinite variety of other variables that contribute to defining that tree, and all of which are constantly changing. I can only know that everything is interconnected; to know the tree is impossible, but the tree is real.Buddhists talk a lot about suffering. And there is plenty of suffering in the world today. But like the tree, we cannot truly know suffering unless we embrace the arrogance that would allow us to think we can truly know it. We all suffer but there is no reason to truly embrace it. And as soon as you don’t, whether it’s in meditation or reading a very good book like this one, you can hold that suffering at a distance. And in its isolation it will dissipate.Buy this book, read it through, and put it on your shelf to read it again. The writing is simple and clear and full of simple wisdom that you can reach out and touch.

Fantastic Book. As a neurologist, I have spent the past three years studying and understanding many mindfulness and acceptance techniques that have their foundation in Buddhism and have been clinically proven to have pervasive health benefits. Principles of Secular Buddhism can be applied by anyone, regardless of religious belief.

Originally, I downloaded a sample of the book. I didn't get that much out of the sample. After completing the sample there was some information about a podcast by the author. I decided to give it a listen while working around the house. The style of the podcast was very easy to listen to. I ended up listening to several. After that, I purchased his book. Many of the items in this book were covered in episodes of the podcasts. My only regret is that it was such an easy read, it over too soon. I will continue to listen to Noah Rasheta's podcasts and certainly consider purchasing other books recommended by him.

This book is a MUST read for anyone even remotely interested in learning about the core concepts of Buddhism. It is also a useful reference book for any new practioner of the Buddhist path, to help brush up on their knowledge, or even for use as an easy access source to draw upon and share with others interested in learning. The question and answer format that Noah uses, makes it extremely easy to bookmark and find any answers you are looking for expediently, without having to dig deep through various texts and complicated wording. He uses a clear cut, straight forward approach in his explanations, utilizing very easy to understand, real world examples and analogies that make learning about Buddhism an enjoyable experience. This book is truly capable of inspiring one to delve further and learn more. Excellent follow up resource or even pre-read to his first book, which we also highly recommend.

As a new interest into Buddhism this was the first book I purchased to educate my self and answer most of the questions I had. I read the entire book in one setting while. This was an amazing resource for people looking into becoming Buddhist

Wish I'd had this book a long time ago. I've read various books like Siddhartha, Old Path White Clouds, etc. which I enjoyed but I got bogged down in the unfamiliar words and various "schools" of Buddhism. (My Western mind asks "which is the best?") The level of detail in this book is perfect for the beginner and for the still-confused non-beginner, and it answers the questions that pop into my mind about the language as well as a bit about why there are different "schools" and some of the differences.
