I have recently moved to the mountains of North Carolina. So I was excited to see a book just for me. It is not too large and it has clear and lovely photos. It begins and ends with a lot of basic bird care, feeding housing, attracting, etc. and landscape information.Alas, almost every time I turn to this book to identify a bird at my feeder or along a drive into town, that particular bird is not there. The birds that are included in this book are common to North Carolina, but there are so many more that are also common. Where are they?I think there could have been less "padding" (such as, how to build a birdhouse) at the beginning and end of the book and more actual bird information to have made it a useful tool.

Outstanding book. Easy to use- love its organization.

This book is done in such a way that even a younger person would enjoy it. The pictures are great. I would recommend this to a novice or an expert bird watcher.

This book has more details than I've been able to pick up from local birders. Each bird has disctint information for their specific species. I added this as an extra backup for another book I have purchased that actually contains an audio comentary. I'll write more of a review about that under the Stan Tekiela Birds of the Carolinas review. This book has great pitures they look HD so you can easily identify the bird you're after. I think I actually bought this book to see if I could find a rare bird that now frequents my back yard at the beginning of every summer and late spring. Neither book had it the bird was not local to this area at all and had been driven off a migration path in a huge storm a couple weeks before. Sad story...the bird comes back to my yard every year looking for a mate. Sorry buddy, she won't be dropping in.

I continue to love this series. In Oath Breaker, Torak's story focuses on his quest for vengeance. He demonstrates some erratic, angry behavior at first. This really annoyed me, but of course it turns out to be an important element of the story. Michelle Paver never includes loose ends.I really enjoyed the ending of this book. It is the first in the series with a happy ending, so that was a nice change. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that these books are beginning to follow a bit of a pattern. It's probably smart that Paver only wrote one more. While this series is incredible, the tale has nearly run its course.

These are set 6000 years ago, and a lot of good vs evil and a boy finding honor strength and courage. My son was absolutely riveted! He got books, one and two out from his school library, and loved them so much that I bought him the remaining four for Christmas. He finished them all by January 2nd. I realize he reads a little beyond his reading level, he's 8, but I'd say that any kid who is into reading , and has read and enjoyed Harry Potter, Rick Riordan and others would fine this series compelling. It was a great find!

Loved the series...fun to learn about the possibilities of life earlier than recorded history. Learned a lot about surviving in nature and how humans attempt to explain the world around them.

My 12 year old granddaughter loves these kind of books.
